REVIEW - 1957 Chrysler 300C, AMT 1/25




 



Background :  The '57 300 is just one in a slew of Chrysler performance sedans.  This 300 came with the 392 Hemi - a venerable engine of its time.  It was handsomely designed with fins, chrome  accents and giant chrome bumpers.  Add to that - huge whitewall tires, a gaping grille and a dramatic hemi that just happens to NOT be hemi orange!  There were only a handful of colors (black, red, white) and none were as exciting as the Mopars of the 60's.

Amt is one for cars that have poorly fitting pieces and this one is easily in the top 10 of lousy.  I've tried to do this car twice and the second time was a poor paint job on my part.  However, both times I worked this car, the suspension fit poorly, the rear lights don't want to stay without using too much glue, the bumper has little to sit on/against to fit, the windows didn't fit the roof-line very well, and the interior tub isn't made very well for fit.  The car has other problems besides fitting as well.  The color selection is poor (if you are trying to keep it stock), there is a ridiculous amount of chrome to detail, the engine bay is drab (besides the hemi), and the car is amazingly HUGE.  Easily the biggest car I've made, it barely fit on the shelf.

This car is not in stores, but is usually found for a low price - around $13.00 or so.  It is worth buying to practice or to use in a junk diorama, but for an actual car to build for display, I would avoid it.

Option : I would look into a 1957 Chevy - AMT or Revell.
